Winter Ice Cream Delight: A Tasty, Affordable Alternative to Magnum
Just because the weather is cold doesn't mean you have to miss out on your favorite sweet treat. Ice cream is a year-round delight, and consumer watchdog Which? has revealed some supermarket ice creams that are just as good as the name brands, but at a much lower price.
To find the best ice cream, Which? conducted a blind taste test with a panel of 60 people. They compared the classic Magnum ice cream with nine supermarket own-label options, including Aldi and Marks and Spencer.
One supermarket brand tied for first place with the Magnum original, offering an impressive 82% approval rating. It's the Marks and Spencer Chocolate Sticks, which cost £2.40 for three 110ml ice creams (80p per ice cream). While they are one of the more expensive own-brand options, they are still £1.10 cheaper than Magnums.
The Magnum original also tied with M&S, receiving the same high approval rating of 82%. The tasters praised the well-balanced sweetness, rich vanilla flavor, and indulgent creamy texture of these treats.
Magnums, the most expensive option at £3.50 for a pack of three, might be worth keeping an eye out for sales. In third place, with an approval rating of 79%, was Lidl’s Gelatelli Classic Ice Cream Sticks. Tasters enjoyed their sweetness, creaminess, and vanilla flavor, making them a great budget-friendly choice at a fraction of the price of Magnums.
The cheapest option was Aldi Gianni's Milk Chocolate Ice Creams, scoring 77%. While they were well-rated for flavor, some tasters found them slightly lacking in creaminess. Despite this, they are still a good value at £1.69 for four 100ml ice creams (42p per ice cream).
So, the next time you're craving a delicious ice cream, consider trying these supermarket alternatives. They offer a tasty, affordable way to enjoy a sweet treat, even during the colder months.
